The construction and playing of the Kamancha (“small bow”), a stringed string instrument, has been around for over 1000 years. It constitutes an important element of classical and folkloric music in Azerbaijan. It takes a central place in social and cultural meetings. It is usually played with a bow made of horsehair, and the performers perform solo or accompanied by an orchestra. When we say Kamancha, we essentially mean the Azeri kamancha. There are many reeds in the same family with close names and similar forms. But the difference in size, production system and sound between them transforms them into different instruments. It is Kamancheh İn Iran, kemane in Turkey.
